Melodic Patterns

Melodic patterns are described by a sequence of intervals to apply to a given formula.
Strictly speaking, they are not musical intervals unless applied to a regular heptatonic scale.
Numbers in the pattern define the number of consecutive notes within the scale to be skipped to reach the next note.

Thus, the pattern 2, 2, -2 will produce the melody below when applied to the C Major scale:

Pattern -6, 3, 3, -2 will produce the following:

The Combinatory mode generates all possible combinations of patterns based on the parameters you decide, such as intervals to use, length, direction and so on.
The following sample breefly plays a few combinations using seconds and thirds only:

However, you could spend a whole life to listen to all the possibilities and still don't find what you are looking for...
Another option is to use the Random mode to dive into the ocean of sound that a given scale produces.
The sample below plays random patterns of 12 notes using all the intervals within the blues scale. Patterns are repeated 4 times each:
